JEAN GILLON ‘AMAZONAS’ ARMCHAIR + OTTOMAN
Our customer found the wood frame of the ‘Amazonas’ armchair. Our task was to research how the original piece was built and then to reproduce the upholstery as accurate as possible. We faced a real challenge since we used a heavy vegetable tanned ‘neck leather’ which is up to 5/8” thick. The leather is left in its original natural quality. Many parts are hand stitched.
Extraordinary design by Brazilian Jean Gillon. The aesthetics are typical of the characteristics of Brazilian modernity. In the frame made of hardwood, the designer attached a fishing network-like cotton mesh, which carries the large leather pillow. The concept and name of the armchair can be interpreted as a homage to the fishermen of the Amazon region.
